For the May 31, 1963 issue of Life Magazine, Gordon Parks reported a cover story that bore the headline, "A Negro Photographer Shoots from Inside THE BLACK MUSLIMS." This photograph and the portrait of Malcolm X, also on view in this exhibition, were featured in the story. Ethel Sharrieff (1922-2002) was the daughter of Nation of Islam founder Elijah Muhammad, and served as leader of the Nation's women's corps.
