For the May 31, 1963 issue of Life Magazine, Gordon Parks reported a cover story that bore the headline, "A Negro Photographer Shoots from Inside THE BLACK MUSLIMS." This photograph and the portrait of Ethel Sharriff were featured in the story. Gordon Parks knew Malcolm X well, and was the godfather of his daughter, Qubilah Shabazz.
