This painting was exhibited here at the Museum in 2018, in Faced: Charles Bierk, the artist’s first exhibition in the United States. The lender of the painting to that exhibition, Kenneth Winter, a man with no previous connection to Grinnell College, attended a lecture given by the artist during the exhibition. Upon seeing his painting hanging in this space, he declared that it looked better on our walls than it did on his, and he donated it to Grinnell College on the spot. It is the first work by Charles Bierk to be donated to an American museum.
